Clive Carter admits killing Khanokporn Satjawat at SECC

Clive Carter has admitted killingKhanokporn
Satjawat
A man has admitted killing a 42-year-old Thai woman with a fire extinguisher at Glasgow's SECC complex

Clive Carter, 35, is accused of murdering Khanokporn Satjawat in the female toilets at the Clyde Auditorium on 12 November last year.

He has pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

His plea was rejected by the Crown at the High Court in Glasgow and another hearing was fixed for August.

Mr Carter, from Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, had been in the dock for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

'Not acceptable'

His QC Ian Duguid entered the guilty plea to the reduced charge on his behalf.

But prosecutor Murdoch MacTaggart told the court: "That plea is not acceptable to the Crown."

Ms Satjawat, a pharmaceutical firm manager, died while attending a conference on HIV drug therapy at the auditorium, which is commonly known as the Armadillo, on the banks of the Clyde.

Mr Carter is believed to have been working as a security guard at the time

Prosecutors allege that he repeatedly struck Mrs Satjawat on the head and body with a fire extinguisher.

The 35-year-old faces a further charge that he attempted to defeat the ends of justice to try and avoid arrest.

Khanokporn Satjawat was a delegate at a
pharmaceutical conference

It is claimed he cleaned blood and hair from the alleged murder weapon in a glass washing room at the Clyde Auditorium.

Mr Carter is also said to have hid a blazer he was wearing in a nearby cabin.

He is then alleged to have told a number of people - including police - that he had seen a male carrying a fire extinguisher and taken it from him.

It is claimed he knew those statements to be "false and untrue".

Mr Carter is also charged with committing a breach of the peace by leaving a woman in "fear and alarm" at the Holiday Inn Express in the city's Stockwell Street on 4 November 2012.

It is alleged that knowing she was alone, Mr Carter claimed to be attending to a fire in her room despite knowing there was no blaze.

He is said to have repeatedly knocked on the door and entered uninvited while holding a fire extinguisher.

Oakbrook Center Mall Shooting: Security Details Shoots Jewelry Store Robber In Thwarted Heist

One suspected criminal was shot in the stomach
during a thwarted robbery attempt at a suburban
Chicago mall Sunday.
A security guard at a suburban Chicago jewelry store shot a would-be robber attempting to smash a display case with a sledgehammer Sunday afternoon.

Oak Brook police say three men entered the C.D. Peacock jewelry store around 3:41 p.m. Sunday with one of the men taking to a display case with the sledgehammer. The Sun-Times reports an armed security guard shot the man with the sledgehammer once in the abdomen prompting the two accomplices to flee.

None of the roughly 16 employees and customers in the store were injured, though the robbery suspect was taken to an area hospital for treatment where he remains in custody.

The two other men immediately fled the store escaping in a Jeep Liberty stolen from a mall employee in the parking lot, according to CBS Chicago.

The 911 call reported an "active shooter," prompting the upscale Oakbrook Center mall to go on temporary lockdown.

"I was just coming down the escalator from Starbucks and there are all of these cops coming down with giant guns," one mall customer told ABC Chicago.

Shoppers at the mall recounted a scene of fear and confusion after seeing police enter the mall, while the Tribune reports the upscale shopping destination put its PR team into damage-control mode, downplaying the incident by preventing reporters from interviewing shoppers affected by the lockdown and banishing media trucks to a remote parking lot.

Polygamy – A Foundational Jericho, A Terrible Tempest!

Polygamy is a horrible building. There is no way a person will come from such a foundation and don’t have any trouble.
All the female oppression, teenage pregnancies, rapes, sexual promiscuity, children prostitution, broken homes, premature death, high maternity death rate, suicide, domestic stress, majority of the mental illnesses, weak family units, under development and poverty, they are all the offspring of the building of polygamy.

Vagabond children, lack of peace, broken homes and rebellion, spiritual powerlessness, drunkenness, fragmented lives, strange behaviours. All these could be linked to polygamy.

Getting to a place of honour and something is pulling you back away from there, getting to a place where you could make the lot of yourself and family better and the enemy is trying to take you away from there.

When you look at these most times, the foundation of polygamy is a result. I pray for someone out there that the arrows of polygamous witchcraft that have been detaining your progress shall be buried alive in the name of Jesus.

All these things are like buildings and you need to deal with them.

When you have had a foundational Jericho in your life and you did not deal with it, what will happen is this:-

1. The time it will arise to fight will be completely unexpected.
2. It may arise on the day of the person’s glory to frustrate the person.
3. It may dribble the person around and cause multiple confusion and you will not even know where the battle is coming from.

Way Out

1. Submit yourself under the power of God. The bible says submit yourself under the power of God that He might exalt you in due season. You need to surrender your life to Jesus if you have not done so before.
2. Repent on your behalf and on behalf of your family line.
3. Reverse that Jericho by prayer.
4. Violently pray it off your life.
5. Barricade your life so that this Jericho will not come to trouble your destiny anymore.

The Somali fisherman abducted and abandoned in Paris

A 35-yr old Somali fisherman, wrongly accused by the French
government of being a pirate, has spent five lonely years in
Paris - mostly behind bars - unable to see his son or wife and is now fighting for compensation.

Abdulqader Guled Said in Paris, FranceFor many people in Africa, the idea of visiting the French capital is an unattainable dream but for Abdulqader Guled Said, his real-life experience of Paris has been a nightmare.

At the end of the four-month 2008 fishing season, he was heading from the coast of Somalia to his home in the town of Garowe, about 180km (110 miles) inland, but never arrived.

He was detained in a dramatic helicopter raid by French commandos near the town of Jariban on 12 April, along with five others.

The French authorities suspected them of being behind the hijacking of the French luxury yacht, Le Ponant, the previous week in the Gulf of Aden.

Its 30-member crew was released on the morning of 12 April after a ransom was paid, reportedly by the yacht's owner.

Later that day, Mr Said accepted a lift home from his brother from the port city of Gara'ad.

The four-by-four vehicle was stopped en route on a desert road by four French army helicopters.

The passengers had their hands tied behind their backs, were blindfolded and airlifted out of Somalia.

Mr Said says he had no idea at the time that his brother, Daher Guled Said, had taken part in the hijacking.

Last June, Daher and three of the other Somalis who had been detained in 2008 were found guilty of piracy in a Paris court.

Mr Said and one of the other accused were acquitted.

But his acquittal has done nothing to undo the damage - and he says his life remains in tatters from the traumatic experience.

"It was awful. I was on my own in a very small cell," Mr Said told the BBC about the confusing days after his abduction.

"Not understanding a word of what I was told. Not being able to communicate with the other detainees. The pain was deep. I suffered a lot," he says.

'Ashamed'

In fact, the trauma he suffered was so profound that he has been diagnosed with a severe case of Ganser syndrome, also known as prison psychosis.

It is a reaction to extreme stress and symptoms include confusion and making irrational statements, and he complains of hallucinations.

"It took me time to understand why all this had happened to me," he said.

"But then, when I understood, I also knew I was innocent and I was just hoping that the French judges would acknowledge this and free me."

This took four years.

Sadness remains etched upon his face - and more bitter times were to come.

He thought after being found innocent, his life would improve and he would be returning to his family.

But instead he was thrown out onto the streets of Paris with a prison "survival kit", which included a Metro ticket and a Sim card.

He had no money in his pocket.

"I'm ashamed by the whole story," his lawyer Augustin d'Ollone said.

Pirates in Hobyo town, January 2010
Successful pirate attacks off Somalia have decreased in
the last few years
"This is just outrageous to have transferred them in total irregularity to France and to have mistreated them in this way."

The BBC has repeatedly asked for a statement from the French justice ministry about Mr Said's treatment, but it has refused to comment on his case.

Four months later, a French court ruled that the government should pay Mr Said 90,000 euros ($119,000; £76,500) in compensation for the judicial mistake.

This is far lower than compensation received in other cases of miscarriages of justice.

Last year a French farm worker wrongly accused of rape was awarded nearly 800,000 euros for his seven years behind bars by a court of appeal. His family were also compensated, his mother getting 50,000 euros and each of his three siblings 30,000 euros.

So Mr d'Ollone has decided to appeal for higher compensation for Mr Said - and separately has filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights about his illegal rendition and trial in France.

Since former French President Nicolas Sarkozy took the decision to abduct and put on trial those accused of hijacking the French yacht, there has been a sharp fall in the number of acts of piracy in the Gulf of Aden.

This is partly because of the increased use of private security guards on ships and better co-ordination between patrolling international navies.

Fear of returning

For Jacques Myard, an MP in Mr Sarkozy's UMP party - now in opposition - piracy would best be dealt with using methods of old.

Le Ponant pictured in April 2008 after the hostages were released
The Le Ponant hostages were released after the ransom was paid
"In other times pirates would have been hanged right on the boat. It was the custom over the past centuries because piracy is an international crime and it's not acceptable by any civilized nation," he said.

He does admit, however, that France has an obligation to the Somalis wrongly accused in this case.

"As for the ones who were mistakenly brought to France, they should be helped to go back home," he says.

But even that prospect is of little comfort to Mr Said as he is scared of returning home, fearing the pirate community may accuse him of collaborating with the French against his brother and the other pirates.

Mr Said still does not have access to any of the money he was awarded. He was given food and shelter by a small non-government organisation and assistance from his lawyer when first released.

He has now applied for asylum, which means that since October he has been getting a monthly government grant of 280 euros - a sum on which it is hard to survive in France - so he eats just once a day.

Before being abducted he was able to support his wife and son and help out his mother from his income as a fisherman.

In his absence, they have been surviving with the help of family members.

His plan is to bring his wife and son to France should he be given asylum.

He says he deeply regrets the day he accepted the lift from his brother.

But for him the greatest anguish has been being deprived of watching his son - now aged nine - grow up.

Bowes Museum increases security to tackle anti social behaviour

Bowes Museum
Local residents have complained to the police and
the museum
A County Durham museum is to hire security staff and close its gates overnight at weekends to tackle anti social behaviour in its grounds.

The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle has been working with police to solve an increasing amount of "petty vandalism" and underage drinking during evenings.

The museum's gates will be closed overnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The museum said it was "very important" it did not infringe to access the park but also kept it a safe environment.

As well as issues with underage drinking, broken glass had been found on the tennis courts at the grounds and people had been walking across the bowling greens.

Richard Welsby, head of finance at the museum, said: "It was very important to us that we did our best to keep access to the park open and deal with the problems and we feel we have found a workable solution."

The gates will be closed overnight every Friday and Saturday and a security guard will be hired to patrol the grounds.

The museum, which opened in 1892, displays furniture, paintings, sculpture and textiles.

Man in court over defaced Queen painting

Ralph Heimans picture in Westminster Abbey
The painting went on display last month in the abbey's
Chapter House
A man accused of defacing a painting of the Queen in Westminster Abbey has appeared in court in central London.

Tim Haries, 41, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is charged with causing more than £5,000 worth of criminal damage.

Appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, he entered no plea and was bailed until the end of June.

A spokesman for Fathers4Justice said on Thursday Mr Haries was a member of the campaign group but that there had been no official protest.

The electrician is alleged to have smuggled a can of spray paint into the abbey before defacing the picture.

Police were called to the abbey just after midday on Thursday after security guards detained a man.

The oil painting on canvas by Ralph Heimans, which went on display in the Chapter House in May, was completed last year for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and depicts the Queen in state dress.

The incident came nine days after she and other members of the Royal Family attended a service at the abbey marking the 60th anniversary of her Coronation.

Palace sitting

Mr Haries was asked by the court to enter a plea but said he was "not in a position" to do so at the moment.

He was released on conditional bail after a 12 minute hearing.

Tim Haries was bailed until 28 June
The painting, entitled The Coronation Theatre, Westminster Abbey: A Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, has been taken off public display as a result of the damage.

It measures 9ft by 11ft and depicts the Queen in the sacrarium of Westminster Abbey, also known as the Coronation Theatre.

It was shown publicly for the first time in September at Australia's National Portrait Gallery, in Canberra, before being moved to London.

Australian-born Mr Heimans, who is based in London, had a sitting with the Queen at Buckingham Palace in March last year.

A spokesman for Mr Heimans said the artist was "aware of the incident" but would not be commenting further.

Man carrying Rs1.5m killed at bank gate

HYDERABAD, June 11: An unarmed security guard carrying Rs1.5 million in cash was shot dead when he put up strong resistance to two robbers outside Muslim Commercial Bank’s Saddar branch on Risala Road on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as 49-year-old Mohammad Saud, who was accompanying Mohammad Khan, the manager of a fuel station located in the Qasimabad area, to the bank.

They had withdrawn an amount of Rs1.5 million from Soneri Bank located in the same area and intended to deposit the money in the MCB branch.

When they reached the branch, Mr Khan asked Mr Saud to take the money to the bank while he parked the car. Before Mr Saud could enter the bank, two armed men following the car on a motorcycle intercepted the guard and tried to snatch the money from him. The guard put up stiff resistance on which the armed men fired on him.

Constable Agha Sohail, deployed at the bank’s entrance fire on the attackers injuring one of them. Both the attackers, however, managed to escape leaving the money at the scene.

The Blood, Our Stronghold.

A stronghold is a place of fortified defence. It is a place that is Impenetrable to the enemy. When battles get tough, people run into their strongholds.

If you can get hold of them before they enter into the stronghold, then fine, but if not, the moment they enter in, you can no longer get them.

They become invisible because they are at that place of fortified defence and from that place of their strength; they can devastate their adversary because they can’t be touched because they are behind that fortress.

When we talk about spiritual strongholds, many believers immediately think about the negative and the verses of scriptures that readily come to mind are the ones below:-

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds ;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

From the scriptures above, our weapons of our warfare are not canal or fleshy but are mighty through God. They are spiritual weapons. We have a mindset that lines up with the word of God and not go against the word of God.

Now, the weapons of our warfare that are mighty through God will pull down these negative strongholds. The weapons of our warfare can cast down these negative strongholds. Strongholds, that go against the knowledge of God.

Satan is not a creator, he is a counterfeiter. Satan is not the one that is responsible for the creation of strongholds. If there are negative strongholds, you better believe that there are Godly strongholds and you got to understand that whatever the enemy comes up with, he was not the originator of it. He perverted it so if there are demonic principalities, there are angelic principalities. If there are demonic powers, there are angelic powers. If there are negative or demonic strongholds then there are heavenly Godly strongholds so just because you hear the word stronghold, don’t automatically assume in your mind that it is a negative stronghold.

God has established the blood of Jesus Christ as our stronghold. It is both the place of strong defence and it is a powerful irresistible weapon of spiritual warfare. That is why God urges us to turn to our stronghold and from the devourer and destroy the adversary.

Zechariah 9:11-12

11 As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

12 Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

So when a believer stays under the cover of the blood of Jesus Christ by faith, he is completely covered, he is completely safe from all harm for eternity.
