Gang hunted after £250k Warrington vodka raid

The security guard was left shaken by his ordeal

Detectives are continuing to hunt an armed gang who stole five lorry loads of vodka from a Warrington warehouse.

Masked men carrying knives attacked a security guard at an industrial estate on Clayton Road, Birchwood, in the early hours of Saturday.

The supermarket and branded vodka - worth an estimated £250,000 - was then driven away in stolen curtain-sided heavy goods vehicles.

Police are urging anyone offered cut-price spirits to contact them.

The vodka was in one litre and 1.5 litre bottles and was branded for a number of supermarkets.

Det Insp Matt Durcan, of Cheshire Constabulary, said: "We believe we can trace it and identify it as being stolen items so we're unsure as to how they will market it and sell it.

"It may be broken down into small items and sold in pubs and clubs across the North West or through other outlets."

The security guard was taken to hospital and left badly shaken by his ordeal but was not badly injured.

Officers have also appealed for information about anyone acting suspiciously in the Melbury Park area of Birchwood in the day leading up to the robbery.

Arrests after cash guard robbery in Padiham

A man and woman have been arrested after security guards were threatened with a sledgehammer and crowbar when delivering cash to a Lancashire bank.

The guards were at Abbey Santander in Padiham, at 2315 BST on 8 June, when they were attacked.

The robbers also smashed their way into the bank before fleeing with a "significant amount of cash", Lancashire police said.

A man, 21, and woman, 20, from Salford, were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
They have been released on bail until November, pending further inquiries.

Five figure sum stolen from service station

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery

Three people are being hunted by police following an armed robbery at a service station where a five figure sum of money was stolen.

Police said two security guards received minor injuries during an incident at about 1300 BST at the Bowhouse Service Station near Falkirk.

Two men, who had their faces covered, were described as about 5ft 5in and 5ft 7in tall with English accents.

It is believed they were driven away in a silver Audi by a third person.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police urged anyone with information to contact them.

Det Insp Ronnie Isles said: "The two security guards were not seriously hurt but have been left shaken."

Man in court over 1985 Cromford armed raid

A man has appeared in court in connection with an armed robbery at a Derbyshire bank 25 years ago.

Three men raided the former Lloyds Bank in Cromford in 1985. A security guard was hit in the face with a shotgun.

Alan Murray, 58, from, Pilmoor, near York, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery and possessing an imitation gun.

He appeared before Chesterfield magistrates and was bailed to appear at Derby Crown Court on 29 October.

The guard was treated in hospital for facial injuries.

The offenders made off with more than £7,000.
