Security Guard stabbed in cashpoint raid

A security guard was stabbed in the leg by robbers who targeted a cash delivery to a supermarket in Lancashire.

The guard and a colleague were taking money to a cash machine at Booths in Longton on Tuesday when they were attacked by two men with a machete.

One suffered a stab wound and the other was hit by the men. Both guards were taken to hospital for treatment.

Lancashire Police believe four men were involved in the attempted raid and two cars were later found burnt out.

They were a VW Golf, found in Stryands in Longton, and anAudi estate car, found near Wymott prison.

Det Insp Marc Nasser said: "I would appeal to anyone with any information about this attempted robbery, or for any further witnesses, to come forward and contact police.

"I would be particularly interested in speaking to people that saw the attempted robbery itself or noticed anybody acting strangely around Booths either on Tuesday, or in the days leading up to the incident."

Security Guard Robbed in Street

Robbers stole a cashbox when they attacked a security guard leaving a shop in Essex.

The guard, 42, had picked up money from the Blockbuster video store in Staple Tye Shopping Centre, Harlow, on Friday.

A man approached him from behind and grabbed the box and after a struggle a second man punched him in the head.

The victim fell to the ground, letting go of the box, and the two men escaped with a four figure sum of cash, according to police.

The robbers were described as black, aged in their late teens or early 20s, between 5ft 10in (1.77m) and 6ft (1.8m) and wearing dark hooded tops.

The security guard was shaken but uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Security guard struck with hammer

Two Licensed Security Guards were forced to lie on a floor and one was hit on the arm with a hammer by armed robbers at a shop in Birmingham.

Three men, armed with sledgehammers and a circular cutter, struck at the One Stop store in Bartley Green.

They followed security guards who had arrived with money for a cash machine into a security vault before ordering them to lie on the floor.

They got away with a "substantial amount" of money, police said.

Staked out

A police spokesman said the men may have staked out the store, in Jiggins Lane, before the raid.

As the guards lay on the floor the men unloaded money from the cash dispenser.

One of the guards tried to close a door on the attackers but was hit on the arm with a hammer, leaving him with bruising.

The men, all wearing balaclavas, then ran to a waiting red Ford Focus car, which had false number plates.

It is thought the car travelled along Adams Hill.

Two shot at celebrity club

Two people were shot when a gunman opened fire at a West End nightclub part-owned by actress Leslie Ash and her ex-footballer husband Lee Chapman.

A Security guard and a clubgoer were injured at the SO.UK Soho nightclub next to the Teatro private members' club in Shaftesbury Avenue.

The guard was not seriously injured, but the customer was last seen stumbling from the building clutching his stomach.

Police fear he could be badly hurt and have been checking hospitals across London. So far they have been unable to trace him.

The trouble started during an R'n'B night at the club at about 2am when a man began arguing with a barman.

After a security guard tried to settle the dispute, a fourth man fired two shots, hitting the security guard in the elbow and another man in the stomach.

Police were called and the guard, in his thirties, was taken to hospital.

Les Misérables actor Sean Kingsley, 36, was drinking in Teatro when he heard shots being fired next door. "Everyone was in a panic and people were shouting 'Close the doors, call the police'," he said.

"The lights came on in SO.UK and I could see people running for the exit. People were in shock. It was chaos."

Operation Trident, Scotland Yard's squad which deals with gun crime in the black community is investigating and forensic science officers were at the scene. A Yard spokesman appealed for witnesses and said the man shot in the stomach had injuries which could be life-threatening.

"We urge him to come forward," he added. "It appears the club had been hired out for the night and was being organised by promoters. It is not known whether the owners were there at the time."

SO.UK Soho's members include many celebrities. Charlotte Church threw a party there last year.

Guard and passer-by shot in raid at Tesco

A Security Guard and a man who went to help him were shot during an attempted robbery outside a Tesco supermarket.

The Licensed Security Officer, in his thirties, was undergoing surgery and was said to be in a serious condition. The passer-by who intervened is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

Two men are being hunted by police. They drove away from the supermarket in London Road, Tring, on a Triumph motorcycle which was later found dumped nearby.

The thieves struck as a security armoured van delivered cash for the ATM outside the store.

Shoppers ran for cover as shots rang out just after 7.30am. The robbers are believed to have escaped empty-handed.

Police said both victims taken to Stoke Mandeville hospital and said the weapon was believed to be an air rifle.

Detective Inspector Mick Trotman added: "This was a targeted pre-planned incident, which is a very rare occurrence in Tring, and we are treating this very seriously."

Hours earlier a security personnel was forced to lie on the floor and a gun was pointed at the head of another when they were ambushed by three men in Andover, Hampshire.
